Graphene - Revolutionary material of future

Obraz
Can you think of spy technology from sci-fi films? You know, things like cameras in contact lenses, or several-milimeters-sized bugs. Or maybe you dream of a phone with a battery you can fully charge within minutes? Well, all those, and many more can be achieved using graphene. First   curious thing about it is that it’s the first material ever discovered, that is just two dimensional. Well, sort of - it’s as deep as one atom, so that’s why scientists say it’s 2D. What also makes it so amazing, and widely anticipated are its many amazing features, like extreme durability, or superconductivity, or that it’s also super flexible and half-transparent, and what’s most important - as it’s jus allotropic variation of carbon, it’s quite cheap in production! Knowing that, we can see that its uses are practically limitless! It's possible to build microscopic electronic circuits or transistors, and some day even all those thing mentioned earlier in the text. To be honest, studi

Smart Homes a.k.a how the technology makes its presence everywhere we go

Have you seen any of the Marvel’s „Iron Man” movies in the past few years? I bet the most of you, who are reading the have seen at least one. Anyway, what I’m trying to point at, is the house of the main character, Tony Stark, is the best example of what a smart home is. In there you had nearly everything in the house connected to intranet so much so you could operate any appliance in there with a smartphone or tablet. „But that’s just an impression in the movie, you can’t mimic it in the real life” you may say. Well, both yes and no. As for now you may not be able to have your own AI in whole house, but you can have some substitution of it as a smart speaker with virtual assistant like Siri or Cortana. In addition to that, you can also add loads of different „Smart Home” - as it’s called - enabled devices, as the market is being literally flooded by them. You have led lights that connect to wifi network and remote control their brightness and color even from the other end of the

The blossom of space technology

Picture of starting Falcon 9 rocket over SpaceX's hangar First, a bit of the history. Back in the XX century, during the cold war, the US and Soviet Union were competing with each other in pretty amazing way - a space race. Instead of fighting each other with troops, they fought by using all resources they could to fly to space, and later on, to get a man to the moon. In the end, the Americans were the ones to win it - in 1969 as a part of the Apollo 11 programme USA successfully landed two men on the moon - Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Some time after that, the cold war, and thus the space race, ended. NASA's budget has been cut, and never lifted to this funding level again. We stopped pursuing our dreams of going to space and the moon.   Now, almost half decade later, once again we started looking u to the sky and once again we reminded ourselves what we've always wanted - to go and be closer to those small flickering lights in the sky, and explore the un

Aging - doom or an illness to cure?

I know that so far I've been writing more of new technology and it's impact on our lives, or its presence in it, but this article will be a little different. Yesterday, while strolling through the internet, I stumbled upon a few videos regarding Aging and current ongoing studies which are aimed to stop aging, or at least slow it down. Even though none of the techniques have been tested on humans yet, the results are very promising. After the trials on model organisms - mice - the preliminary results show that we could increase our lifespan by up to 40-50% or if we are succesful, maybe even double the maximal possible age of human being. According to that study, we could also free ourselves of the majority of diseases and illnesses resulting from our body's malfunctions and cell fatigue, like i.e Alzheimer, or heart failure. Maybe one day we could forget about such thing as natural death, or senescence as a whole? This sounds like a utopian world - nobody dies from ill
