Appreciation

Today the thought that has been stuck in my mind is how much there is to the saying that you can never really appreciate someone’s work unless you do it yourself. I got to experience this by myself by being in quite little time both teaching somebody, and being taught English. Not until I started teaching my sister this language I could truly understand how astonishingly hard it is to direct a good, interesting lesson, and establish a connection with your student(s). Of course I always thought highly of all my teachers seeing how much effort they put into trying to teach us both English, and some important life lessons at a time, but there always came moments when I’ve been critical of their work or materials they prepared. Now, my point of view has changed drastically, because every time I even try to think this way, I immediately see how would I feel in they position, because I know now how much effort, time and energy it takes to conduct even the most boring lesson, which has any plan at all. I think my appreciation of teacher’s work has never been as high as now knowing all this and thinking to myself all this.

    Maybe it is a good idea to be introduced for instance at school, so everyone would try different jobs to start to appreciate them. It seems to me that lack of appreciation and respect is a growing problem of our society.

      That really is a great idea, and actually it's already been introduced in Germany for quite some time. And from what I know proved to be a brilliant solution, which both helped the teenagers find direction which they would like to pursue, and increased appreciation of these jobs they were doing to get a sense what it's like.

      I always try to not expect much from someone and it makes me appreciate their work more. Anyway, Hania's method seems to be the best one.

    While it's good to appreciate others' work, I think it's not good to ditch criticism just because of empathy. Both of these are crucial for improvements.

I know that so far I've been writing more of new technology and it's impact on our lives, or its presence in it, but this article will be a little different. Yesterday, while strolling through the internet, I stumbled upon a few videos regarding Aging and current ongoing studies which are aimed to stop aging, or at least slow it down. Even though none of the techniques have been tested on humans yet, the results are very promising. After the trials on model organisms - mice - the preliminary results show that we could increase our lifespan by up to 40-50% or if we are succesful, maybe even double the maximal possible age of human being. According to that study, we could also free ourselves of the majority of diseases and illnesses resulting from our body's malfunctions and cell fatigue, like i.e Alzheimer, or heart failure. Smart Homes a.k.a how the technology makes its presence everywhere we go

Have you seen any of the Marvel’s „Iron Man” movies in the past few years? I bet the most of you, who are reading the have seen at least one. Anyway, what I’m trying to point at, is the house of the main character, Tony Stark, is the best example of what a smart home is. In there you had nearly everything in the house connected to intranet so much so you could operate any appliance in there with a smartphone or tablet. „But that’s just an impression in the movie, you can’t mimic it in the real life” you may say. Well, both yes and no. As for now you may not be able to have your own AI in whole house, but you can have some substitution of it as a smart speaker with virtual assistant like Siri or Cortana. In addition to that, you can also add loads of different „Smart Home” - as it’s called - enabled devices, as the market is being literally flooded by them. Driverless Cars - the way to get rid of traffic?

Some time ago I watched a TED talk about a concept of automated transport world. In that utopia humans wouldn’t waste time in traffic jams, nor would they waste time having to to get to and from public transport like subway, tramways or some future transportation method. The main principle of that concept were driverless cars, which would enable us, the commuters not to waste time driving our vehicles, but rather to spend it doing our work, paying attention to kids, or anything we want just like in the 2009 sci-fi movie „The Minority Report” . All this sounds as if it was way down the road right? Well, it turns out it’s just around the corner! Companies like Google , Uber or Tesla have been working on this undertaking for quite a while and have very promising results.
