Friendship


Today I’ve been to my good old friend’s 18th birthday dinner. It was the first time we've seen each other since his last birthday, and it’s not anything bizarre for us - usually we only see once a year, because we both have hectic lifestyles and can’t match dates to meet some other time. However, when we finally meet, you couldn’t tell that we’ve not seen for this long - we immediately get along perfectly, find topics to talk through, things to do together. As if we’ve never stopped seeing each other. And today when I got home and finally sat down, I started to think about it. 
The reflection I had on this was that true friendship can withstand even long periods of not seeing each other, because deep inside, nothing’s changed between you. I have also other friends my relations with whom confirm these thoughts, one of them left to other school, another to foreign country. With both of them I could not see for ages, and still act as if no time has passed at all since we’ve last see each other. And I love it.

    Lucky you! Long-distance relationships aren't easy to keep up.
    Look again at how you use the verb SEE. We 'see someone' so there always needs to be a complement (noun/person) after the verb SEE (e.g. see each other). If this isn't clear, come to see me during the break.

    Such thing seems to occur only if both people want to keep the friendship going. If one of them won't care much, the other one will have a hard time trying to maintain any contact. The time itself seems to be the best at determining how strong and how true relationships really are.

    I like to meet with friends I haven't seen for a long time, because the conversation is more interesting than usually. Can you relate to this?

    Don't you think that it is a different 'kind' of friendship? From my experience, it is usually focused on positive moments in life. You don't discuss your worries in such meetings. Would this person be there for you if something went badly?

Why in the age of science do so many people believe in supernatural things?

In my humble opinion, the main cause for people’s belief in supernatural things is their lack of understanding of science that denies them. Present-day science is so complex, and so difficult, that It can’t be understood by each of us alone. That’s why whole world develops it, but it should be whole world’s scientists job as well, to deliver it to plain citizens. To make them understand it, even simplified, so that people didn’t need to turn to belief in supernatural things to explain phenomenas. When we make the society aware of science that lies in the basics of our world, people might abandon those silly beliefs. There is much truth to those words... None of known science would be discovered if not people who wondered about unknown...

Should guns be legalized in Poland?

I do not feel wise enough to give a simple "yes" or "no" answer to this question,  because both sides of this debate have some convincing arguments, so my answer would preferably be somewhere in the middle. That is, I disagree with supporters' claim that possessing a gun would be an only way to protect yourself if there was such need, because even now there are numerous non-lethal defensive measures, like tasers or pepper sprays. On the other hand, I agree that current interpretation of law should be changed, to allow victims to defend themselves if attacked, because prosecuting such people for injuring attacker in self-defense is something sick. Then again, I neither agree completely with the other side. I don't perceive the idea of making guns more available as fundamentally wrong. I believe introducing it in a well-controlled and orderly way could be beneficial for the society, but sadly I don't see any politician I would trust to do it properly,

Aging - doom or an illness to cure?

I know that so far I've been writing more of new technology and it's impact on our lives, or its presence in it, but this article will be a little different. Yesterday, while strolling through the internet, I stumbled upon a few videos regarding Aging and current ongoing studies which are aimed to stop aging, or at least slow it down. Even though none of the techniques have been tested on humans yet, the results are very promising. After the trials on model organisms - mice - the preliminary results show that we could increase our lifespan by up to 40-50% or if we are succesful, maybe even double the maximal possible age of human being. According to that study, we could also free ourselves of the majority of diseases and illnesses resulting from our body's malfunctions and cell fatigue, like i.e Alzheimer, or heart failure. Maybe one day we could forget about such thing as natural death, or senescence as a whole? This sounds like a utopian world - nobody dies from ill
